Diagnostic Ultrasound Technician
Diagnostic ultrasound technician is the medical professional who uses the sound waves of high frequency to produce the images. The technician is also known as the diagnostic medical sonographer and this healthcare worker is trained for using the various diagnosis imaging equipments. Ultrasound equipments produce the images which are converted into the photograph or the videotape or it is electronically transmitted to the physicians. The training programs for the diagnostic ultrasound technician will range between 1-4 years and the 2 year program is often chosen by most students and is very common.
Job Description:
The diagnostic ultrasound technician is trained to explain the diagnostic procedures to the patients. The technicians will direct the patient to the right position for testing and will assist the disabled individuals for moving to the right position. The technicians are generally trained for performing various types of the image testing like the magnetic imaging resonance, x-rays and the sonograms. The technicians will keep the records, will adjust and maintain the equipments. During the testing process the values are calculated, the measurements are taken and the results are analyzed.
Specialization:
In the case of the diagnostic ultrasound technician several specialization areas are available. Each of the areas will require specialized training techniques that focus on the specific testing types. The gynecological and the obstetric sonographers generally specialize in performing the exams on female reproductive system. The ultrasound technology is mainly used for tracking the growth and the development of the fetus during the pregnancy period. The ultrasound technician will specialize in the abdominal ultrasound; perform the tests on the digestive organs like spleen, pancreas and liver. Breast sonographer is trained for using the specialized equipments to examine the breast tissues. Neurosonographers will specialize in the testing of brain and the nervous system.
Certification:
The ultrasound technicians does not need any license but the employers usually prefer the technicians to have certification in the field. Certification is generally offered by the ARDMS. Certification is the best way to show the dedication and competency to the career choice. Certification requires the technicians to have the continuing credits.
